LJS Endorses Gene Carroll for the General Election
The Lincoln Journal-Star published their endorsements today:
Eugene W. Carroll, 58, would bring a calm, get-down-to-business demeanor to City Council duties.
As a former basketball referee at the collegiate level, Carroll is accustomed to remaining composed in the face of vitriol. The experience should serve him well in helping to dampen obstructionist partisan warfare at City Hall.
His experience with athletic facilities across the country also would be helpful in the event that Lincoln voters give approval to the West Haymarket arena in coming years.
Chairman of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Commission and a longtime real estate developer, Carroll went back to college in his 40s to get a master’s degree in community and regional planning.
A Democrat, Carroll ranked second in the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce ranking of candidates on an agenda of promoting economic opportunity and job creation. He would provide insight and informed judgment in helping to formulate city policy.
